St Albans pub to close for major refurbishment

Local St Albans pub, The Crown, is to close after four years – but don’t worry, it’s just for a few weeks - for a major refurbishment set to transform the pub.

Acquired by All Our Bars in 2011, The Crown quickly became a favourite with locals for its sport offering and real ales, but bosses have now decided the time has come for a brand new look for The Crown and they promise the refurbishment will herald a whole new era for the pub.

The Crown on Hatfield Road will benefit from a £300,000 refurbishment starting later this month under which the pub will undergo complete redecoration and rebranding.

Spirit Pub Company and pub group All Our Bars say the fit out will be a blend of “traditional meets modern” and works will include new bar surroundings, an upgraded kitchen, re-flooring and new toilets but, more exciting, a major development and extension of the beer garden.

The venue will be completely stripped out to allow for an entirely new pub to take shape inside. “No fixture is safe and no surface will remain untouched” says Paul Wigham, CEO of All Our Bars.

Spirit Pub Company and All Our Bars have announced that they plan to reopen and relaunch The Crown at the end of August.

A new food menu, with focus on quality produce, an extended spirit, real ale and wine selection, and homemade Sunday roasts are also on the cards after the refurbishment.

Paul Wigham said: “The Crown will look fantastic. We are launching a new and extensive menu supported by an unrivalled drinks selection that will include craft beers, rare premium spirits and an extended fine wine list. We can’t wait!!”

The Crown is located at 144 – 146 Hatfield Road, St Albans, Herts, AL1 4JA. Telephone: 01727 853347.
